Cycle’s Product Manifesto

Source: cycle.app/manifesto

This is such a refreshing take! Simple and direct, from the makers of the Cycle product feedback app.

Dropping the “manage” label fits perfectly with the concept of full-stack leadership.

What do you agree or disagree with here?

  1. Ship stuff people need
  2. Share releases, not plans
  3. Manage things Make things happen
  4. Product sense comes from talking to customers
  5. Until folks engage with it, you didn’t deliver any value
  6. Premature optimization is the root of all evil
  7. Never stop crafting the first mile of your product’s experience
  8. Ship it only if you’re proud enough to put your name on it
  9. If you use engineers to just code, you don’t get half their value
  10. Stand for something! Or at least don’t try to please everyone
  11. The story you tell shapes the product you build — make it cohesive
  12. A prototype is worth 10 presentations
  13. Your superpower is empathy
  14. Ship less but better — in doubt, reduce scope not quality
  15. Enjoy the ride — great products are built by teams that have fun shipping them

    Love it! Particularly this one:

The story you tell shapes the product you build — make it cohesive

I’ve been thinking a lot about storytelling in general and how to create artifacts (stats dashboards, opportunity solution trees, strategy docs, etc.) that make your thinking visible in a way that creates a cohesive narrative.
