Five Steps to Optimize a Process

“Elon Musk” level questioning as a rigorous, five-step process (in this exact order, paraphrased):

  1. Question all requirements, esp. if someone smart made them
  2. Try to delete parts or steps in the process
  3. Simplify or optimize what’s left
  4. Accelerate cycle time
  5. Automate

The order matters, since you don’t want to automate or accelerate work that doesn’t matter.

Challenge: How will I apply this rigor at work? In my personal life?

I’m not sure I get number one. I would definitely challenge a requirement made by a dumb person. In thinking how to apply the optimization process to food prep, I could skip steps or ingredients that seem superfluous. To save effort, I could just purchase ready-made or processed foods, or to be really efficient, order in all meals.
